Background info: In another life I was a potter, a painter, a mother, and a wife. In 1984, I found myself suddenly single. I spent the next 4 years obtaining a Masters of Architecture. Unfortunately, because of a need for continuous medical insurance, I could not afford to practice. In the fall of 1991, I took a drafting job with a large engineering firm. I still work there full time. In the spring of 1996, I bought an abused old house with a 14x19 room for an art studio. The studio soon turned into a wood working shop. Since then I have been working on the house to the neglect of most everything else. It is a true design/build project. Because my financial resources are extremely limited, I design, then I try to figure out how to build it using the least amount of money. I have NO previous building skills. This just shows that given an incentive, anyone can do anything. My physical therapist has a yard stick in her room, "yard by yard, it's hard; inch by inch, it's a cinch". Presently immobile due to back surgeries and other medical problems, I can't work on the house. When I do return, it will be at a leisurely pace. Until then, I am enjoying hand work.
