positive and negative and realism and abstract

Jo-Ann Golenia took my photos and played with them in Photoshop. Abstract realism? Lots of quilting ideas here. Thanks Jo-Ann.

Temperature 20 degrees
It is a GREAT day to be inside. Several years ago, I got a bunch of polar fleece scraps really cheaply. Today seems like a great day to be inside exploring how I might use them with the least amount of waste. Making something warm?

Positive and Negative Space

Kitchen Window with the sun streaming in.

Kitchen Window at night.
With all the discussions on Quiltart about positive and negative space, I thought I would throw in something that could invite discussion without tearing apart someones work of art. Therefore, I took a photo of my kitchen window during the day and then at night.
Which is more interesting?

The pillow tells the story

................................................................................................. I made a small pillow that tells about all of the photos. Plus I added a little love note. While it is common to have these items on the back of the quilt, I thought the quilt might get very dirty if all of Mom's friends were continually touching it. Hopefully, this little pillow will serve a good purpose and help keep the quilt clean.

Before the finished quilt

Once I got the idea for my quilt for Mom, I started sorting through photos. I then made the photos the center of stars. However, I did not check well enough that they were square. Once made, I assembled them into this first attempt. It had too many problems to fix. I then ripped the whole thing apart. Either adjusted the block to square or made a new one if it was really awful. Then I experimented with a few different layouts. I think the struggle was worth it. Now I'm trying to figure out the best way to send it, US post or UPS? Any suggestions?

Memory Quilt for Mom
I finally finished the Memory Quilt for My Mom. It has been a long, slow road for a couple of reasons. 1. This is my first 'real' quilt; 2. I've been recovery from back surgery (and complications). I can only sit or stand for 15-20 minutes. Mostly I recline.
The results are far from perfect. However, this was a labor of LOVE!

Starting this blog
I already have one blog. However, when some quilt artist friends were 'talking' about a blogspirit, the name called out to me. Now, I'll just have to see how easy it is to use.
